Sarah Gromko, M.S., CCC-SLP, PAVA-RV
Sarah (she/her) is a Speech-Language Pathologist and Vocologist who is licensed to provide speech, language, and voice therapy in Connecticut and New York. She is a Pan American Vocology Association-Recognized Vocologist.
Singing Background
Sarah has been singing professionally since age 12 and has been trained vocally by teachers from the Metropolitan Opera, Broadway, and jazz stages. She has a film-scoring degree from Berklee College of Music, where she studied composition and vocal technique. Over the years, Sarah has been recorded as a background singer, a featured jazz vocalist, and for both national and international commercials and TV spots (e.g. Showtime, PBS). Under her direction, Gromko’s jazz quartet held residencies at New York City and New Orleans.
Musical Background
Before her career as a speech-language pathologist, she worked extensively in the fields of choral conducting, music business, and education. She has worked with Wynton Marsalis and James Oliverio (orchestrations for All Rise), Howard Shore (on Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring), and bandleader Mike Mainieri of Steps Ahead. She also served on the Executive Board of the American Federation of Musicians (AFM), New Orleans.
GromKo. Voice Therapy
She now has her private practice as a speech-language pathologist, GromKo. Voice. Although she treats deficits across the spectrum, her specialties are gender-affirming voice, singing voice, voice for Parkinson’s Disease, and high-level cognitive communication (long-COVID, traumatic brain injuries, neurodivergence).
Qualifications and Associations
Sarah Gromko is proud to be a neurodivergent member of the LGBTQI+ community. One of her achievements as a speech-language pathologist has been designing and implementing the gender-affirming voice program at one of the largest hospital systems in New England. She has presented at national and regional conferences on that topic and others centering on incorporating music into speech-language pathology services. She is an active member of the World Professional Association of Transgender Health (WPATH), GLMA: Health Professionals Advancing LGBTQ Equality, Pan American Vocology Association (PAVA), and Voice and Speech Trainers Association (VASTA).
