I recently worked with Sarah for gender-affirming voice therapy, and I truly can’t put into words how much of a difference it has made for me. Going to my first appointment, I didn’t know what to expect, but Sarah helped me bring out a voice that really feels like me.
While I was initially nervous about working on my voice, Sarah made me feel exceptionally comfortable from the very first session. As a trans person, that level of care and understanding meant the world to me. She created an environment where I always felt safe, respected, and encouraged. Seeing her quickly became one of the highlights of my week, I was always looking forward to learning new techniques, practicing what we’d worked on, and continuously refining how I sounded. Every lesson felt tailored to exactly what I needed, and I consistently felt supported and understood.
Since gaining the confidence to use my voice publicly, friends I haven’t spoken to in a while are always so surprised and excited to hear me! I feel so much more comfortable in my own skin, and I’m thrilled to have the knowledge and skills to keep working on my voice safely and healthily over time. I cannot recommend Sarah enough.
My time with Sarah Gromko has been a key component of my journey. She not only teaches voice from the perspective of sound and pitch, but many other aspects of communication that go hand in hand with my speech. Understanding what it means to express my self and actually being able to do it have been priceless to me. She has an uncanny ability to focus in on the finer points that specifically relate to me and keep the big picture in the mix during my lessons. While I will always consider this a “work in progress” I can say with absolute certainty that I would not have been able to enjoy as much progress and success as I have without Sarah’s guidance.
Reaching out for something like voice training can be a pretty intimidating prospect given that one can feel vulnerable, but I cannot say enough about how validating my experience with Sarah was. I feel like I am in a totally different place than I was pre-therapy…I highly recommend Sarah to anyone seeking a caring therapist to help you vocally!

Vocal Training has given me so much more confidence and has made me feel more like myself.
Your voice is intertwined with your personhood. It is what distinguishes you from everyone else. Because of that, some people in transition are afraid to use their voices because it doesn’t match who they are.
There are many online resources for voice therapy, but having a 1:1 therapist ensures you are on the right track and individualizes your journey. Each person has different needs based on their hormonal levels and other factors, whether they are masculinizing or feminizing, or anything in between. Gender-affirming voice with a speech-language pathologist assures the safest and most sustainable outcomes. We work with you to align your voice with your gender presentation, even if it is fluid!
