Elderly couple sitting outside talking. At GromKo. Voice, we are dedicated to improving the communication and quality of life for individuals and their loved ones living with degenerative diseases that cause parkinsonism. These include:

  • Parkinson’s Disease (PD)
  • Lewy Body Dementia (DLB)
  • Multiple system atrophy (MSA)
  • Progressive supranuclear palsy (PSP)
  • Corticobasal degeneration (CBD)

Through specialized therapy, we empower individuals to regain their voice and enhance their confidence in communication. Sarah Gromko, M.S., CCC-SLP, the founder of GromKo. Voice, is certified in both of the main programs for these populations: LSVT Loud® and SPEAK OUT!®, and she has extensive experience working with individuals with Parkinson’s and parkinsonism.

All treatment focuses on strengthening the muscles used for speaking and swallowing by targeting the underlying motor challenges caused by Parkinson’s and parkinsonism. The intensive interventions increase:

  • Speech clarity
  • Speech strength and volume
  • Expressiveness
  • Swallowing ease (decreases coughing and allows you to eat more types of foods)
  • Overall communication abilities
  • Confidence

The programs are both structured, engaging, and proven to improve communication when practiced consistently. Both require practice outside sessions and can be offered via telehealth. Therapy is covered by most insurance plans. Ongoing group sessions, provide tools, resources, and regular follow-ups ensure continued success.

LSVT LOUD is an effective speech treatment for people with Parkinson’s disease (PD) and other neurological conditions. LSVT LOUD trains people with PD to use their voice at a more normal loudness level while speaking at home, work, or in the community. Key to the treatment is helping people “recalibrate” their perceptions so they know how loud or soft they sound to other people and can feel comfortable using a stronger voice at a normal loudness level. While LSVT LOUD treatment has helped people in all stages of PD, the majority of research has been on those in moderate stages of the disease.
